Our Beliefs

Scripture and the Catechism

We are Christians who believe, teach, and confess the Christian faith as it taught and confessed in Scripture alone. We let Scripture speak for itself. Scripture interprets Scripture. We do this because we believe that all of Scripture is God’s Word. We do not believe Scripture only contains God’s Word.

  • All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. (2 Tim 3:16)
  • For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Pet 1:21)

We are true Lutherans, and so we teach the faith drawn from Holy Scripture in a simple way to young and old. This simple way of teaching is found in Luther’s Small Catechism. It is not Martin Luther’s doctrine contained in the Small Catechism, but it is Jesus Christ’s own teaching taught simply. From the Small Catechism we learn about the Six Chief Parts of Christian Doctrine:

  1. The 10 Commandments
  2. The Apostles’ Creed
  3. The Lord’s Prayer
  4. The Sacrament of Holy Baptism
  5. Confession
  6. The Sacrament of the Altar
